Indoor Herbs Gardening

Having limited space should not be a hindrance to you for setting up your own herbs garden indoors. There are a large number of herbs gardening enthusiasts around the country that are growing their herbs in their closet space. Many of these herbs growing enthusiasts that use their closet spaces harvest a good quantity of herbs all the year round. The key to this is good planning and the physical arrangement of your plants. You do not have to become an expert in spatial planning to come up with a good design and layout for your indoor garden. You can learn the best way to budget your space by just reading through books and magazines on the subject of indoor herbs gardening. There are numerous books and magazines available in the market about this subject so you do not need to worry about finding the right type of information.

Indoor Herbs Garden - The Planning Stage

The first thing that you will need to do when planning for your indoor herbs garden will be to measure the space you have available inside your home. If you do decide to undertake the venture of indoor herbs gardening utilizing your closet space, you will need to measure your the space accurately to obtain a good idea on how you will go about dividing your space. Different herbs have different space requirements so it will be necessary for you to discover how much room will be available for each type of plant to allow it to grow well. Measuring the space availability for growing your herbs is important so that you will be able to determine what the lighting requirements will be for your plants. Remember that with indoor herbs gardening, good lighting is critical. Herbs will not thrive if they do not receive enough light, so if you use artificial light for your plants, ensure that your lighting is adequate.

When measuring the space you have in your closet, you will need to work with this simple mathematical formula: length x width = the square footage. For example, if your closet space measures 3ft x 4ft, then you will have 12 square feet of space for planting your indoor herbs garden. If your closet has numerous compartments, you may need to clear some of these compartments to gain more space. Also, you will need to paint your closet white. The white helps to reflect the light and has the added benefit that you will be able to see if your plants are infested with insects easier.
